Racial Equity Strategic Planning - Lemann Foundation

Definition of a structuring goal, strategies and indicators for the Racial Equity area, bringing together the Foundation's board of directors, internal areas and partner organisations from the Lemann ecosystem


Context

The Strategic Planning meeting was held to define the structuring goal of the Foundation's Racial Equity area for 2024, as well as supporting the institution's impact areas in implementing and monitoring their racial equity strategies.


The meeting was attended by the Foundation's CEO, Denis Mizne, the Racial Equity team, coordinated by Deloise Jesus at the time, and representatives of teams from the Foundation's other impact areas and functional areas. The group also included representatives from organisations that form part of the Lemann ecosystem, bringing the total to approximately 40 people in person and 15 online. At this meeting, the contributions of those present were unified in the revision of the proposal brought by the Racial Equity team for a structuring target for the area in 2024 and, based on this revision, strategies and indicators for the target were jointly created.


Approach

To carry out this work in a contextualised way, the first part of the day consisted of an overview of the history and purpose of Racial Equity as a structured area at the Lemann Foundation. At this point, the team reviewed what the sector had already done, highlighting the challenges and progress made on the road to 2023 and encouraging dialogue on lessons learned. The other areas were also able to share progress and challenges concerning their Racial Equity goals.


Secondly, the Racial Equity team presented the proposition for a 2024 structuring target. We then invited the group to divide into thematic areas to define strategies and indicators that would contribute to achieving the structuring goal. At the end of the meeting, we carried out a prioritisation process among all the suggestions presented and captured offers of contributions from other areas and organisations in the Foundation's ecosystem.
